Eccentric Exercise – Insulin, Lipid Profile and Metabolism
Looking for a boost in overall health? Eccentric exercise is sure to improve overall health even in small doses. This is a great addition to a health routine, or to add quick exercises to a busy schedule.
Eccentric exercises may be thought of as the opposite to “regular” exercises. Eccentric exercises focus on lowering a weight through extending the muscles rather than contracting the muscle to lift the weight.
Recent research has looked at the overall health benefits of eccentric exercises, and how beneficial they may be. A study published in: Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise examined the health of women before and after they began a program of eccentric exercise. Comprehensive blood chemistry and body measurements were examined for the participants including all major health factors.
The results of the study showed an improvement in a variety of health factors for the participants. Resting energy expenditure, fat oxidation, blood lipids, and insulin resistance all showed some improvements over the course of the study. The conclusion from the research was that as little as 30 minutes of eccentric exercise was enough to improve overall health.
Being healthy is not simply about “traditional” exercise and diet program. Some newer exercise techniques, such as eccentric exercise, may provide solid health benefits in a short amount of time.
